Our club started in 2012, after a few friends watched live Handball matches at the London Olympics and were blown away by the sport. They started to play on the outside netball courts in Stansted Mountfitchet, with goals made out of plywood.
After some much appreciated coaching and receiving funding, they moved inside, purchased second hand goals and had line markings put on the court floor. This is how Stansted Supers were born.
We trained as a mixed team and we had several friendly games against our friends London GD and this relationship grew stronger.
In 2018 with some more coaches on board, we started visiting schools and two after-school clubs were set up at Leventhorpe School in Sawbridgeworth and Birchwood High School in Stortford, with Herts & Essex High School students joining in.
Later on, in September 2018, we set up our first youth development sessions at Leventhorpe with thanks to England Handball Funding. We picked up our pace and visited more and more schools during Spring and Summer 2019.
With the new Sports Centre opening in September 2019 we moved the club and both our youth and senior teams now train at the same venue. Such an exciting time for us. We were also in a position to enter a men’s and a women’s team in the Regional leagues. With the move to Bishop’s Stortford, we decided it was time to change our club name to reflect the town we now call home. From September 2019 onwards we are Bishop’s Stortford Handball Club
Covid had much of 2020 written off, but we were able to continue as much as we could within government restrictions. We offered free Summer sessions and in September started our new Recreational sessions outdoors on Thursdays, Easter 2021 we ran free outdoor sessions to get lockdown children active and enjoying sports and friendship
Unfortunately we lost most of our womens players due to relocation, injuries and other commitments. We are keen to get a womens team started again, so if you would like to join, please get in contact.
We always welcome volunteers and players with open arms to our club.
We currently have u14 boys, u14 girls, u16 girls and a Men’s team and a successful mini handball section for our youngest members, currently age 4+
